Portmeirion Village, North Wales

Portmeirion Village

The Italianate village of Portmeirion is set on the estuary of the Dwyryd river just southeast of the port of Porthmadog.  Its setting is idyllic surrounded by forest with the iconic Portmeirion village in its heart. The 1960s TV series The Prisoner was filmed here and now has a cult sci fi following with the No 6 music festival an annual event and the TV series celebrated by its fans every April.  There are complimentary ½ hour introductory tours to the site, along with a free woodland train which takes you high above the village.  For a special treat book yourself into one of the self-catering cottages which are dotted around the village, when you can wake up to a peaceful tranquillity before any visitors arrive!  This a must for any visit to North Wales and there is the 5 star Portmeirion Hotel, a 1920s Art Deco wonder along with Castell Deudraeth above the village, also 5 star, where you can have a superb lunch.  There are also cafés and shops to explore along with woodland walks during your visit.  There are steep bits to the site, but for anyone with any mobility challenges there are buggies and vehicles at guests’ disposal to transport you from the hotel back to the car park or vice versa.  No excuse not to visit then!

This tour is suitable as a full day cruise ship tour from Holyhead or as a full or half day coach tour from Caernarfon, Llandudno or Bodelwyddan.
