Steam Railway and River in the Sky, North Wales

Pontcysyllte Aqueduct

Wales is a unique part of the UK speaking the oldest living language in Europe –  so listen out for Welsh today on your tour.

Travelling via Mold and the ancient market town of Ruthin, we reach the bustling market town of Llangollen, named after Saint Collen who established the town in the 6th Century.  Our first “industrial age” experience will be on the Llangollen Heritage Steam Railway.  Started by Henry Robertson in the 19th Century and lasting for around 100 years, thanks to railway lovers, it’s now working again for your enjoyment.  We’ll take a 40 minute trip to Corwen, just over 10 miles before we head back along the Dee Valley in our coach for our lunch stop in Llangollen.

Your guide will give you a town orientation and then you’ll have free time to have lunch and explore this ancient coaching town – part of the London to Holyhead coaching road.

We then head for Jones the Boat.  Peter Jones has been taking visitors across the awesome feat of engineering – the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct or River in the Sky for many years.  The aqueduct stands 126ft over the river Dee, which you’ve just seen flowing in Llangollen and your 45 minute journey aboard a canal narrow boat will take you twice across the aqueduct. So plenty of opportunity for some great pictures.

After a final tea or coffee, we head back to your cruise ship or hotel.

This tour is available as a cruise ship tour from Liverpool, or a full day coach tour from Chester, Llandudno or Bodelwyddan.
